A debate - Fashion or Function??

On Friday there was a bit of talk on Twitter about FitFlops releasing a few new styles, one being SuperTrainers and the other SuperBoots.

Now I am a LOVER of FitFlops (the flip flop styles) I wore mine all summer long and have to say that I could walk for miles in them, they are so comfy and I always felt nicely supported. However, I have always said that they are not an attractive style. The wobbleboard technology gives them a thick sole and makes them very chunky.

So, on Friday there was rumours floating around Twitter about these new styles and I then read another blog that made mention of the SuperBoots and how they were going to look more like a "Fashion boot" than a "fitness shoe". I left a comment on this blog as I feel that FitFlop will never fall into the fashion category. They, to me, are not makers of "fashion" styles they make "function" styles.

Now, I have not seen a picture of the new SuperBoot, but I have seen the FitFlop Mukluk boots that were released Autumn Winter 09. They are not a "fashion" boot, they are, in my eyes, a true "function" boot (I have to point out here that I wish I had a pair of these for dog walking, as I imagine they are as comfy as my beloved FitFlops). They are for keeping cosy and comfortable on long walks or daily coimmutes (where you want to make the most of the exercise that you are gettting). The Mukluk style is not one that (again my opinion) would be purchased, to be worn with skinny jeans, to go on a night out with the girls!?

I can not see how FitFlop are going to keep the Wobbleboard technology that they are so proud of and create a "fashion" boot.

What so you think?

Hey honey, how are you? You're looking so well and happy! :D

I'm intrigued by your post - I completely agree that there are times and places for different looks (and shoes!).

I don't have Fit-Flops (but am looking into them now after your fab review!) but have always been a fan of Crocs so understand the practical versus beautiful debate! I know loads of people think Crocs look stupid but for me they are so comfy!

We go camping and they're ideal for that - cayman style in fuschia, of course! http://www.crocs.co.uk/crocs-cayman/10001,en_GB,pd.html?cid=&q=cayman

When I was in New York in the summer (ooh, get me, mrs traveller!) I sought out some black Crocs in Malindi style as you can see here http://www.crocs.co.uk/on/demandware.store/Sites-crocs_gb-Site/en_GB/Search-Show?q=malindi&prefn1=refinementColor&prefv1=Black as they weren't available here at that time. They were just so comfy for sightseeing and traipsing round the Big Apple. I also think they look a bit more chic than classic crocs so didn't mind them being 'fugly'!! What a word! :D

Thanks for your post - fab as always!!
